About The Old Loon
My Story.
Hello! My Name is Kathy Ruberg. I have lived in Two Harbors, MN, all of my life. I worked as an administrative assistant for most of my adult life. I have four children and 11 grandchildren who all live right in the area. I have been blessed with this beautiful family.
I opened One Old Loon in July of 2022. After retiring, I found myself with too much time on my hands. My four children were grown with families of their own, and my grandchildren were growing up fast also. I love to sew and I love fabric and all the things you can create with it. I am more of a sewist than a quilter, but I enjoy it all.
When the perfect opportunity came, I took the leap. I knew I didn’t have the means to fill a whole shop with fabric, but that’s where my friend, Debbie Lind, came in. She was the owner of Quilter’s Cabin located in Castle Danger at Castle Haven Cabins. It was a lovely shop and a favorite to many. When she decided to close, she had hundreds of bolts of fabric left.
We found a way to help each other. I could sell her remaining fabric in the back half of my shop on consignment. This would help me fill the shop. These fabrics are all selling at an awesome price of $8 a yard and there are many to pick from!
There is also a consignment area in the back of the shop where you can purchase ready made quilts, runners and crafty items.
It is strategically located between our hardware store and our famous Castle Danger Brewery, so ladies, send your men either way and come in and shop away!
